Before purchasing the cup I had been doing research about it for about a year or so. I read a lot and watched a lot of YouTube videos too. After the research I then decided to get one but I wasn’t sure which brand/type to get. I chose BoT because their service is impeccable and they have a brand selling cups(no brainer really). So I finally bought a cup and for the first time in my life I was super excited about getting my next period. I was literally counting the days.
As I write this, it’s my first cycle with the cup and I’ve been using the it for the past 3 days. Conclusion: I’m in love with it!
It definitely does take some time figuring things out, I have had a few leaks which I didn’t mind cause I ensured I had a liner on to prevent leaking through clothes. But after going back to watch videos on insertion of the cup and troubleshooting cup leaks I am so pleased to say I haven’t had a leak(insert happy dance gif).
I will say that it does get messy at times, especially during the trial and error of it all but at the end of the day it’s your body and after this experience I’m amazed at what my body is capable of.
For me, the process wasn’t horrible because I wanted it to be as less bumpy as possible. So, I got a water based lube for inserting, I ensured proper hygiene, I was open to making mistakes and wasn’t expecting perfection from the jump, I was very patient with myself and I tried again if I ended up with some discomfort while sitting or standing.
I’m thoroughly enjoying this experience as I’m learning so much more about my body and my flow (btw, be prepared to change it more frequently if you experience heavy flows)
Tips:
Make sure you get the correct size for YOU.
Do your research before and during, it helps A LOT.
Try different folds and positions when inserting/extracting it.
Have a back up during trial and error.
You and your body aren’t disgusting, periods are natural.
